People won't sit next to me on the bus or subway, but homeless people always want to chat and accuse me of being a viking.

I'm a metalhead. I'm a gamer. I'm a geek. I like to go out for drinks, particularly at Passeport and Foonzo, also like to go out for no other reason than to hang out somewhere... for some reason though, everyone else I know seems kind of focused on there needing a purpose to be out. Whatever happened to loitering in cool places or going for a stroll? I'm down for that shit. Down like a clown. Charlie Brown.

Time to talk about favourites? Bout that time, yeah. Easy conversation hooks.

Music is always a good place to start. Many people will say they don't have a favourite band, and that's fair. I didn't either until I heard Blind Guardian.

Apart from that, Iced Earth, Korpiklaani, Satyricon, Finntroll, Amon Amarth, Type O Negative, Sisters of Mercy, :wumpscut:, The Who, Alice Cooper, Jacques Brel, Queen, Joy Division, Sabaton, Misfits, Black Sabbath, Tom Waits, Professor Elemental...I could keep going on. I won't.

With regards to movies and TV, Blade Runner is my favourite. There's just something about things that start with "Bl" isn't there? Madness. I do like my cyberpunk fiction, though, and noir in general. So, Strange Days, Robocop, Dredd, Ghost In The Shell (films & SAC), The Warriors, LA Confidential, Chinatown, Dark City and Sin City are also favourites. Beyond that, Firefly, Twin Peaks, Berserk, Hellsing Ultimate, Metalocalypse, Ren & Stimpy, Beavis & Butthead...and tons more.

Literature-wise, the trend kind of continues. Snow Crash, Neuromancer, Count Zero...all favourites. I'm a huge Terry Pratchett fan, I've read nearly every Discworld novel. Likewise, I've read nearly everything of J.R.R Tolkiens that's been published minus Children of Hurin - I couldn't resist the Christopher-Lee voiced audiobook on that one. The Year Of Our War and No Present Like Time by Steph Swainston. War of the Rats by David L. Robbins. The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, the Otherland series by Tad Williams. I've read a lot of books, so I'll spare you.

Games...well, I like old school JRPGs - I grew up with them. Earthbound, Final Fantasy IV, VI, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Secret of Mana. Beyond that I'm a huge Metal Gear fan (MGS3 being my favourite). Other games that hold a special place - Deus Ex, System Shock 1/2, Full Throttle, The Walking Dead (Telltale), X-Com: UFO Defense, Fallout 1/2/New Vegas, Bravely Default, DayZ, Syndicate, Silent Storm, SWAT 4, Shadowrun (SNES), Shadowrun Returns, Bushido Blade, Borderlands...again, I could go on.

I'd like more people to hang out with that aren't linked to my current social circle - not that they're bad people, quite the contrary actually. I'm proud to be friends with these people. I'd just like to break out of this circle - I tend to hang out with goths because I can't find many fellow metalheads.
