when I was about 3, I used to crawl out of bed and play some fun games of hide and seek with my parents, only they had no idea they were playing and would go nuts trying to find me. So one time I decided to hang out in the laundry hamper (tall cylindrical one with a lid) as it was a new place that I knew they'd never think of. Plus it was really cozy, don't judge me. so anyway, I ended up peeing because I just simply could not give up my hiding spot but I was so embarrassed that I had pee'd myself that I decided to go to sleep so that when they found me and carried me back into bed, I wouldn't have to deal with their anger over peeing in the already dirty clothes. Because in my toddler mind I thought it was clean clothes and that what I had done was this terrible, terrible gesture. To this day, my mom doesn't know that I could hear them calling for me to come out and thinks that I was asleep the whole time but I know better.
